John grew up
on a family farm in Iowa growing corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs.
He moved to Florida after receiving his doctorate from Iowa State
University and now serves as the Director of the University of Florida
International Agricultural Trade and Policy Center. His responsibilities
are to facilitate and coordinate the efforts of the faculty at the
University of Florida who work on policy issues that impact the
U.S. agricultural industry and international trade.
John is also
a Professor in the Food and Resource Economics Department with responsibilities
for developing extension education programs for and conduct applied
research on the agricultural market. The emphasis of the position
has been to develop tools that may be used by growers and growers'
associations to assist them in their production, marketing and policy
decisions. Educational
programs include application of research results and economic analyses
of international trade and market alternatives. A large amount of
his work has been completed in the area of international trade and
its impact on U.S. growers.
